Active Winter Adventure
Always fancied earning your turns instead of queuing for a lift? This beginner ski touring trip teaches you the whole thing from scratch; how to skin uphill, read the snow and ski back down wild, untracked terrain. No ski touring experience needed, just solid downhill skiing and the willingness to work for the descent.
Over four guided days you’ll climb into the Jotunheimen mountains with expert guides, learn proper avalanche safety, and ride lines you’d never reach on a normal ski holiday. A snow coach takes you deep into the range where the touring starts. Full touring kit is included, so there’s nothing to buy before you come.
Back at your cosy mountain hotel each night, there’s a sauna to thaw out tired legs and all your meals sorted. Small group, five nights, and the kind of skiing that makes a chairlift feel a bit pointless afterwards.

Qualified mountain guides and your Gutsy Girls host
Pick-up and drop-off at Tyinkrysset bus station
Activity Overview
Ski touring is skiing without the lifts and off-pistes. Using your own power, attach climbing skins to your skis to get uphill, then rip them off at the top to ski back down through untracked snow. It’s more effort than resort skiing, but the payoff? Silent peaks, sweeping views, and terrain most skiers never see.
Your guides will lead a session on avalanche safety, to learn how to stay safe in the mountains. Throughout the week you’ll also gain experience in how to choose your route, based on conditions and where the snow is best.
You’ll earn every descent and feel it in your legs. No touring experience needed, just confident intermediate skiing ability and a decent level of fitness.
Activity Overview
To head deeper into the mountains, travel in a retro Bombardier snowmobile to Eidsbugarden for a more remote ski experience.
These large covered snowmobiles are one of the only ways to reach so far into the Jotunheimen mountains.
Activity Overview
Grab your towel and head down to the riverside sauna on the banks of the Begna. Mt. Skørsnøse fills the view as the heat does its thing.
The Destination
Your Adventure Starts Here
Meet the transfer at the bus stop, then check in to your hotel. Enjoy your first dinner at the hotel and get to know the women you'll be climbing mountains with over the next week.
After breakfast, head to the ski centre to get kitted out with touring gear. Your guide will walk you through how everything works before you head out.
Lunch, then straight into it. There's a short introductory tour off the groomed runs to start building your uphill technique and give you a feel for moving through untracked snow.
Head to the sauna, then enjoy a three-course dinner and rest up for tomorrow's adventure.
Head to Mt. Børrenøse, a good beginner ascent with varied terrain to work through. As you climb, your guide will cover the fundamentals: avalanche safety, route planning and decision-making.
Lunch with a view as you eat on the mountain, then ski back down to the hotel.
Sauna, then dinner. You've had a full day.
Board the retro Bombardier snow coach for a scenic one-hour ride into Jotunheimen National Park.
Spend the day ski touring in really remote terrain. Today's focus: terrain traps, group dynamics, and how to plan a tour well.
Sit down with your guide and plan tomorrow's route, based on the conditions, snow quality and where to go. It’s not just following the plan anymore, you're helping to make it.
Navigate the terrain as a group, following the route you planned. Practice reading the conditions and finding the good snow.
Lunch, then continue on your route before heading back to the hotel.
Relax any achy muscles in the sauna, then refuel with a three-course dinner.
Breakfast, then we'll transfer you to the bus stop for your journey back to Oslo Airport. You'll leave with sore legs, a head full of mountain views, and a new set of skills.

The Answers
No. This is for ski touring beginners. Our guides teach you uphill technique, avalanche awareness, and route planning. You do need solid intermediate skiing experience though (comfortable on red runs), decent fitness, and willingness to learn.
You need decent fitness and intermediate skiing ability. We’ll ski tour for 4-6 hours daily, climbing uphill on skis, then skiing down. You’ll also learn avalanche safety skills and how to plot the best tour route. If you can handle four consecutive mountain days learning something new, then welcome aboard!
If you’ve ever wondered what’s beyond the piste and like the idea of planning your own routes away from the resort crowds, then yes. As long as you’ve got the relevant ski experience and fitness, this is the trip for you.
Touring skis, boots, poles, climbing skins, helmet, and avalanche safety gear (transceiver, shovel, probe) are all provided. You just need to bring your own ski gear, goggles and winter walking boots.
A vintage Bombardier snowmobile – a large, covered, tracked vehicle that takes you further into the wilderness. On this trip you’ll go deep into Jotunheimen National Park, where regular transport can’t reach.
Yes. Bring a daypack (20-25L) for water, snacks, and extra layers. We also recommend a lightweight dry bag or two to keep things dry inside your bag.
Fly into Oslo Gardermoen (OSL) or Bergen (BGO), both have a direct Vy express bus to Tyinkrysset. From Oslo it’s around four and a half hours, or you can take a quick train into the city and a bus from there. From Bergen it’s around five hours including the light rail or airport coach to the bus station. Book at vy.no/en. Full options are in the trip guide.
We will collect you from Tyinkrysset bus stop on arrival day and drop you back on the last day of the trip.
Transfer Times
The group transfer is included in your trip package. There is no discount if you choose not to use it.
You can explore the town until the transfer arrives, or book a private transfer to the hotel (approximately NOK 80 / £6 / €7 per person). The journey from the station to our base is only five minutes, contact the Bookings Team for assistance.
Norwegian cold is dry so feels less harsh than damp UK weather of the same temperatures if you’re layered correctly. Expect snow, wind, and sunshine, possibly on the same day. Check the forecast in your customer portal closer to departure.
Yes. Guides swap things around based on the weather and conditions. They work hard to ensure you get your adventure, whilst keeping safety as a top priority, so please be flexible with them.
Cards work everywhere including the hotel, restaurant and local shops. You can bring small amounts of NOK for tips if you want, but it’s not necessary.
