Never clipped into a pair of skis before? Good, then you’re in the right place. Our resort has 14 prepared slopes, including eight green runs and three blue. This means you’ll spend the week learning to ski, not just surviving it.
You’ll progress from snowplough basics to linking turns across uncrowded runs, with qualified instructors who give real feedback. Expect to fall. Expect to get back up. Expect to be surprised by how far you’ll progress in a week.
Activity Overview
Swapping skis for a paddle mid-trip sounds like a lot, but it’s worth it. You’ll be in a stable double kayak with another Gutsy Girl as you paddle on Norway’s longest and deepest fjord through the heart of some spectacular mountain scenery.
Never kayaked before? Your guide covers everything before you leave the shore.
Activity Overview
After hours in the mountains, the riverside sauna will feel non-negotiable. Perched beside the Begna River with Mt. Skørsnøse dominating the view, this full Norwegian experience is where tired muscles recover.

The Destination
Your Adventure Starts Here
Take the bus to Tyinkrysset bus station and catch our transfer to the hotel.
Dinner on arrival, meet the group and learn more about the upcoming week.
Breakfast, then straight to it. Meet your instructor, get fitted for your kit and head to the slopes. Your instructor covers the basics like how the gear works, how to stand and, most importantly, how to stop.
More time on the beginner runs to build on the morning’s work.
A post-ski sauna looking out over the Begna River, followed by a three-course dinner.
Back out after breakfast for another session with the instructor to go over the basics and learn some new skills.
A filling lunch, then back on the slopes to make it stick.
Back to the hotel to a yoga session to stretch it all out, then refuel with a delicious dinner.
Time to explore. Leave the starter slopes and test out your new skills on other parts of the resort with your guide.
Packed lunch at a panoramic cabin at 1,200m, with views stretching to the jagged peaks of Jotunheimen National Park. Then back on your skis to practice everything you've learned so far.
Sauna to sort out your muscles, three-course dinner to sort out everything else.
Wake up with a yoga session and breakfast, then it's time to hit the slopes again. Your instructor is with you for the morning as you master new terrain, tweak your technique and learn how to look for the best snow.
Keep skiing, or hire snowshoes and explore the marked trails around the hotel if you fancy a break.
Catch up with the group over dinner.
Skis off, it’s time to get kayaking. Today we're heading to Sognefjord, Norway's longest and deepest fjord, to give your legs a break and see the mountains from a new perspective.
Warm up in a mobile sauna afterward and really embrace the Nordic spirit by taking a polar plunge.
Head back to the hotel for dinner and a chill out before your final days on the slopes.
Your last day on the slopes. Work with your instructor until lunch, and grab any last advice from them.
Enjoy your last packed lunch or eat at the Ski Café, then the mountain is yours for one last session.
Head back to the hotel for one final sauna before settling down to a celebratory dinner with your group.
After breakfast pack up, check out and head back to the bus stop to start your journey home. You're leaving with downhill skiing skills, legs that know what they've been through, and the kind of confidence that only comes from learning something new.

Moderate Learning to ski is physically hard work. You use muscles you don’t normally, are constantly making adjustments, and have to work hard to stay in control for six to seven hours daily across five consecutive days on the slopes. If you’re doing cardio three or more times a week – running, cycling, the gym – with some strength work on top, and back-to-back active days don’t faze you, you’re ready. You'll Need to Be

Beginner No skiing experience needed, this is a beginners trip. You’ll start from scratch with qualified instructors, work through snowplough and turning, and be linking turns on blue runs by the end of the week. What you do need is a comfort with picking up speed and the sensation of feeling slightly out of control while you’re learning. The faster you make peace with that, the faster you’ll progress. If you’ve skied a little before and want to go back to basics and build solid foundations, you’re welcome too, but remember this is a trip for beginners and paced as such. Beginner is the skill level. It’s not an easy trip. Check the Fitness Level above. Not sure what level you are? Our Trip Rating Guide explains how we score fitness and skill. |

The Answers
No. This trip is for complete beginners. You’ll learn from scratch with experienced instructors in small groups. By the end of the week, you’ll have solid skiing skills and the confidence to hit the slopes independently.
You need decent cardiovascular fitness. Skiing is physically demanding – you’ll be active 6-7 hours daily for consecutive days. If you’re doing cardio (gym, running, cycling) three times per week or more, you’ll manage fine. Your legs will ache, but that’s normal.
You will fall, everyone does when learning- falls are part of the process. The nursery slopes where you’ll start are gentle and safe. Instructors teach you how to fall safely and get back up. If you can’t handle falling over and laughing it off, choose a different activity.
Your skis, boots, poles, and helmet are all included. We’ll fit everything on arrival and make sure it’s working correctly. You just need to bring your ski clothing (jacket, trousers, gloves, goggles).
All equipment (kayak, paddle, dry suit, buoyancy aid), an expert guide, and a session in the mobile sauna followed by an (entirely optional) ice dip. No kayaking experience is needed – your guides will teach you everything.
Instructors adjust the pace of the group to try and suit everyone. Struggling? Tell your instructor and they’ll modify exercises. Afternoons are time for independent practice at your own pace.
Fly into Oslo or Bergen and take the direct bus to Tyinkrysset, where we’ll collect you. From Oslo there’s also an easy train-and-bus route via the city. Full details are in the trip guide.
We will collect you from Tyinkrysset bus stop on arrival day and drop you back on the last day of the trip.
The group transfer is included in your trip package. There is no discount if you choose not to use it.
You’ll need to arrange your own transfer to the hotel from the bus stop (approximately NOK 80 / £6 / €7 per person). Contact our Bookings Team for help with this. The transfer from bus station to hotel takes about five minutes.
Expect full winter conditions across the December to April season, coldest in midwinter and milder by March and April. The Norwegian cold is dry, so it feels less harsh than damp UK weather at the same temperature, but it will be cold, so bring good layers. Check the forecast in your customer portal closer to departure.
Mountain weather can change plans. If conditions aren’t safe for skiing, instructors will adjust the itinerary; different slopes, different timing, or indoor theory sessions. We’ll always put safety first, but you’ll still get your full skiing experience to help you progress throughout the week.
No. Most places accept cards, including the hotel and resort. You can bring a small amount of local currency for personal expenses and to tip your guide and host if you want, but it’s not expected.
