On Jotunheimen's Doorstep
You’ve tried cross-country skiing and you’re hooked. Now it’s time to level up.
This week pushes your technique and stamina further. We start with a technical refresh, then build up to longer, more demanding routes through wilderness terrain. By mid-week you’re covering distances that would’ve seemed unthinkable at the start. Your experienced instructor will focus on efficiency – how to generate power, maintain momentum, and conserve energy over hours on the trails.
Mid-week, we’ll also hit the water with a day kayaking on Sognefjord before you put the skis back on for your final big days in the mountains.
We’ll be staying in a modern mountain hotel, with a riverside sauna, three-course dinners, and yoga sessions designed for recovery. Everything’s arranged so you can focus on skiing further and faster than before.
An Active Agenda

Activity Overview
Cross-country skiing gets you deep into the wilderness to reach areas off limits to most people. At improver level, you’re ready for the challenge of longer routes and more technical terrain, whilst building up the endurance to ski all day. We’ll refine your technique, work on hill climbing efficiency, and help you tackle more difficult trails with confidence.
Each day builds on the last and by the end of the week, you’ll be skiing routes that push your limits and give you ultimate bragging rights.
Activity Overview
Mid-week, we swap skis for paddles and head to Norway’s longest and deepest fjord. Your ski legs get a break while your upper body does a bit more work.
Paddle between towering mountains in the kind of landscape that makes Norway legendary, then recover in the nearby sauna. No kayaking experience is needed as our guides will show you the ropes. For those keen, there’s also the option to take a dip in the winter-cold fjord.
Activity Overview
After long days covering serious distances on skis, you’ll really need this. We work with local instructors who understand what cross-country skiing does to your body and how best to recover. It’s functional stretching to get you ready for the next trails.
Activity Overview
After hours in the mountains, the riverside sauna will feel non-negotiable. Perched beside the Begna River with Mt. Skørsnøse dominating the view, this full Norwegian experience is where tired muscles recover.
The Destination
Your Adventure Starts Here
Travel by bus to Tyinkrysset, where our transfer will meet you for the very short drive to the hotel.
Settle in and meet your group over dinner. Your instructor will introduce themselves and talk you through the week ahead.
Tuck into the breakfast buffet and pack a lunch. There's yoga on the top floor to loosen up first, then head to ski rental to get your kit sorted. After that hit the snow for a comprehensive technique refresh.
Your instructor will work on refining what you already know including diagonal stride, double poling and weight transfer, so you're ready for the tougher routes ahead.
Enjoy dinner at the hotel followed by a good night's sleep.
After breakfast, head to a lakeside area for an intensive technique session. This is where you'll get into the details: efficiency, rhythm and handling different snow conditions.
Take what you've learned and put it to work on an extended tour around (and beyond) the lake. Stop somewhere with a view for lunch, then continue the route before heading back to the resort.
Use the riverside sauna to sort out tired muscles, then refuel with a three-course dinner at the hotel.
After breakfast, review the maps, weather and conditions with your instructor to pick a more technical, longer route that'll actually test you. Pack extra snacks - you'll be out there most of the day.
Eat lunch on the trail then continue skiing.
Back at the hotel, stretch it all out with yoga, followed by dinner at the hotel.
Today we switch it up. After breakfast head to Sognefjord to kayak on the icy waters.
Make the most of your day on the water, then warm up in the mobile sauna by the shore. If you're up for it there's also an optional polar plunge. Head back to the hotel afterwards.
Enjoy a three-course dinner at the hotel.
Wake up with a yoga session. After breakfast clip back into your skis. Practise those up and downhills, then head out on a round trip with incredible views.
Prepare for your evening ski session. This evening you'll ski out with headlights to guide the way.
Meet the group for your evening tour, followed by dinner.
Your final big day. After breakfast, your instructor will map out an ambitious route - longer distance, more elevation and terrain that'll combine everything you’ve learned this week.
Stop for lunch in the mountains. Then finish up your final ski before heading back to the hotel to hit the sauna one last time.
Enjoy your final three-course meal at the hotel with your group and celebrate your incredible week.
Breakfast, then transfer to Tyinkrysset for your bus home.

The Answers
This trip is for improvers, not beginners. You should be comfortable with basic cross-country techniques and ready for longer, more challenging routes. If you’ve never cross-country skied before, you’ll need to do our beginner’s week first. Downhill ski experience doesn’t count.
You need prior cross-country skiing experience and solid fitness. We’ll ski 6-8 hours daily, covering 10-25km with real elevation. If you train regularly and want to push yourself, you’re ready.
No. Cross-country and downhill skiing are completely different with different techniques, equipment, and movement patterns. Any skiing knowledge helps, but you need foundational cross-country training. Start with our beginner week.
You’ll get cross-country skis, boots, and poles. You just need to bring your clothing layers (you already know what works from previous cross-country trips).
All equipment (kayak, paddle, dry suit), expert guide, and mobile sauna session (with an option to take an ice dip in the fjord too). No kayaking experience is needed.
Yes. Bring a daypack (around 20-25L) for water, snacks, and layers. You’ll need to pack layers while skiing, but put them on during stops. A lightweight dry bag for inside your daypack is also useful to keep things dry.
Fly into Oslo Gardermoen (OSL) or Bergen (BGO). Both have a direct Vy express bus to Tyinkrysset, where we collect you.
From Oslo it’s around four and a half hours on the direct airport bus, or you can take a quick local train into the city and pick up a bus from there, which run more often through the day. From Bergen the bus takes around five hours and ten minutes from the bus station, plus a short light rail or airport coach to reach it.
Book bus tickets at vy.no/en. Full details, including return times, are in the trip guide.
We will collect you from Tyinkrysset bus stop on arrival day and drop you back on the last day of the trip. You are responsible for getting yourself to Tyinkrysset.
Transfer times:
Arrival day pick up: Tyinkrysset bus stop at 21:15
Departure day drop off: Tyinkrysset bus stop at 9:45
You’ll need to book your own transfer to the hotel (approximately NOK 80 / £6 / €7 per person, five mins journey time) or feel free to stay and explore the local town whilst you wait for our transfer. Please contact the Bookings Team for help if you’d like a private transfer.
Norwegian cold is dry so feels less harsh than damp UK weather if you’re layered correctly. Expect snow, wind, or sunshine. Check the forecast in your customer portal closer to departure for a more accurate idea.
Yes. Guides adjust activities based on weather and conditions to ensure the best and safest experience. Be flexible with them, they work hard to deliver great skiing while keeping everyone safe.
No. Cards work everywhere including the hotel, restaurants and local shops. You can bring small amounts of NOK if you want for tips, but it’s not necessary.
