Croatia Adventure Tours
Active adventures in Croatia are best enjoyed with a little rest. Fjaka is a Dalmatian philosophy and state of mind; it’s not laziness, it’s rest. An ideal way to wind down at the end of a hot Mediterranean day — enjoy it socially with (new) friends, or alone, relaxing in the sun. Fjaka is, after all, an individual experience.

Glide across the Adriatic in a sea kayak for island hopping further afield. Explore this photogenic seascape, abandoned submarine tunnels and hidden spots you can’t reach by paddleboard.
Explore Kvarner with its quiet islands and unique landscape. Expect scenic crossings, rugged cliffs, quiet coves, and plenty of chances to just look around and take it all in.

Whilst Croatian waters are beautiful, there’s plenty to explore on land too. Wind through dirt tracks and tackle the climbs for views across the archipelago. Explore small islands and their fishing villages, where the boats outnumber cars, and cycling is the best way to get around.
Add a little food and drink to your adventure — cycle between local vineyards and restaurants, tasting everything the landscape has to offer. Head into iconic National Parks with an ebike to explore further and experience Croatia’s rich nature and culture.
Activity Overview
A trip to Croatia wouldn’t be complete without a hike to a viewpoint. Grapple with rocky paths and Croatian summer heat, turning what looks like a gentle walk into a workout. Navigate loose stones underfoot and steady climbs, but reaching island high points gives you a full 360-island panorama that’s well worth getting sweaty for.
Head inland for impressive peaks and mountains, where the temperatures are cooler and the hikes, greener and steeper. No compromise on the views!
Must visit places in Croatia
From Plitvice Lakes with its enchanting lakes and waterfall paradise to Paklenica National Park, ideal for climbing and hiking its impressive peaks, Croatia’s eight national parks are perfection.
Sail, ferry or, for a real adventure, paddleboard between tiny, untouched islands. Search for primaeval history in the Zadar Archipelago or dive around the Kornati Islands.
Chase screams of joy as you zipline over the Cetina River, or make a splash canyoning through it. Windsurf, raft, bike, paddle, hike and climb - whatever your thrill, Croatia delivers.
A small country with a whole lot of history. Visit national parks, old medieval towns and experience traditional crafts. Each, rich with Croatian culture and spirit.
Mix city culture with adventure. Walk the walled city of Dubrovnik, explore Zagreb by bike or climb and roam the Šibenik Fortress network.
Cycle vineyards, feast on mountain lamb, sip bold wines and discover local dishes that taste as unique as the landscapes around them.
We've got you covered
Late spring and early autumn are the sweet spots. May, June, September and October give you warm weather, calm seas and far fewer crowds than peak summer. July and August are the hottest months and popular with tourists, so if you prefer quieter islands and slightly cooler paddling conditions, aim for either side of peak season. That said, the Adriatic is reliably warm from June through to October, so you won’t be short of swim stops.
Generally brilliant. Summers are hot, sunny and dry (expect 25–30°C on the coast), with sea temperatures warm enough to swim in from June onwards. There are mountains and valleys for hiking, climbing and biking, as well as a whole lot of coastline for watersports like paddleboarding and kayaking. The occasional bora (a strong coastal wind) can affect paddling conditions on the sea, but any certified guide will know the area well and adjust routes where needed.
Light layers, sun protection and the right shoes are your essentials. Croatia is hot and sunny, so whatever you’re doing you’ll want sunblock with a high SPF, a hat and sunglasses. If your adventure means you spend full days on the sea you’ll probably also want a rash vest or light long sleeve for sun cover. You may also want watershoes to protect your feet getting in and out of the water on rocky surfaces or pebble-packed beaches.
Decent worn in hiking shoes or boots are essential for any trekking trip, as well as quick-drying and sweat wicking layers.
The Dalmatian coast is hard to beat for a multi-activity trip – paddleboarding and kayaking between islands, hiking up to viewpoints, and cycling through small island villages with barely another tourist in sight. The islands of Molat, Dugi Otok and Kornati are highlights, and the national parks along the coast and inland (Krka, Plitvice) are worth the trip alone if you have time to explore beyond the itinerary.
The Istrian Peninsula is another great spot, with vineyards and olive groves on hillsides just asking to be biked through. There’s also plenty of coast for any water activities and a fantastic food culture to ensure you’re refueled at the end of the day.
Croatia is safe, welcoming and easy to get around, making it a great choice for solo travellers (although always be alert when somewhere new or on your own). English is widely spoken along the Dalmatian Coast, transport between islands is straightforward and the general vibe is relaxed rather than intimidating.
The coastline, national parks and islands mean there’s no shortage of things to do independently, and the adventure activity scene is well set up for solo travellers who want more than a beach holiday. You’re never short of ways to meet people either, whether that’s on a guided activity, in a buzzy hostel or over dinner in a harbour town.
The Adriatic is generally calm and sheltered compared to open ocean paddling, which makes it well suited to all levels. Conditions vary day to day and if you use a guide they’ll always plan routes with the weather and sea state in mind, and will adapt if needed.
