Guided Snowshoeing Holiday in the Dolomites hero

Limestone spires and frozen waterfalls

Winter Hiking in the High Mountains

Five days snowshoeing across Stelvio National Park means six completely different trails. You’ll get Dolomite spires one day, glaciated peaks the next. You’ll also learn actual avalanche safety skills with transceivers and probes with a hands-on lesson.

Stay in a family-run hotel with a small but mighty wellness centre and great food. There’s also the opportunity to lunch at a working mountain dairy, serving aged cheese and fresh canederli. It’s the kind of week where you return home with legs that ache, photos your friends will definitely want to see, and a genuine sense of achievement.

Snowshoeing

Stelvio National Park

The Ortler-Cevedale

Lunch at a Traditional Dairy

Avalanche Safety Prep

Activity Overview

Snowshoeing

Snowshoeing is winter hiking with wider feet. The broad frame distributes your weight so you float on top of the snow instead of sinking thigh-deep. No technical skills needed, no previous experience required; if you can hike, you can snowshoe. It’s a really accessible way of reaching the completely inaccessible!

Activity Overview

Stelvio National Park

Stelvio National Park is one of the largest protected areas in the Alps, and you’ll be snowshoeing right through the heart of it. Its protected status means zero development, minimal crowds, and landscapes that look exactly like they did centuries ago. You’re not here for information boards or visitor centres; you’re here because the valleys stay raw and the trails stay empty.

Activity Overview

The Ortler-Cevedale

The Ortler-Cevedale group sits within Stelvio National Park, which means wild terrain and zero crowds. Snow-covered slopes catch morning light, glaciers gleam at midday, while shadows carve ridgelines by afternoon. You won’t summit these on snowshoes, but the view of them will make you stop mid-stride.

Activity Overview

Lunch at a Traditional Dairy

Snowshoe past centuries-old stone farmhouses to a traditional dairy, where a lunch of  aged mountain cheese, cured meats, canederli and homemade desserts is waiting. Proper alpine fuel.

Activity Overview

Avalanche Safety Prep

Now for the serious bit. This trip includes a hands-on avalanche safety workshop where you get familiar with transceivers, shovels, and probes, then practice search and recovery in the snow. These are actual backcountry skills, not theoretical chat. You hope you’ll never need it, but absolutely should know what to do.

The Answers

What You're Wondering

Which flights should I book?

Book a direct flight from London Gatwick to Verona via Easyjet.

Suggested Flights
  • Arrival Day: LGW – VRN – 13:10 – 16:15 | EZY8335
  • Departure: VRN – LGW – 11:15 – 12:25 | EZY8336
Group transfer
  • Arrival Day: Pick up at Verona airport at 17:15
  • Departure Day:  Drop off at Verona airport at 09:15

Not sure if your flight fits? Just get in touch — we’re happy to help.

Do I need snowshoeing experience?

Nope. Snowshoeing is just walking with snowshoes strapped to your boots – if you can walk, you can snowshoe. We’ll show you everything you need to know on day one.

How fit do I need to be?

This trip is rated moderate. You’ll be active 5-6 hours daily covering 6-12km, but with breaks for snacks and to take in the views. If you can handle full-day hikes in the hills and enjoy consecutive active days, you’ll manage fine. Regular cardio (running, cycling, swimming) will prepare you well.

What should I wear for snowshoeing?

Layer up – sweat-wicking base layers, midlayer, waterproof jacket and trousers at the minimum, with waterproof hiking boots, warm gloves, a buff or scarf and a hat too. You’ll heat up when moving so packable layers work best. A full packing list can be found in the Trip Guide.

What equipment is provided?

We provide snowshoes, trekking poles and all instruction. You bring your own winter hiking boots (make sure you’ve broken them in – new boots might mean blisters), clothing layers, and daypack. You might also want to invest in some gaiters to prevent the snow getting in. We also provide avalanche safety equipment for the workshop.

Equipment is good quality, modern gear that’s fitted to you on arrival.

What's a typical day like?

First, breakfast. Snowshoe for 2-3 hours until lunch or a return trip to the hotel, then 2-4 more hours of snowshoeing in the afternoon. Back to the hotel in the late afternoon for a chance to relax or try out the spa, then enjoy a four-course group dinner. You’ll do a different route every day which will bring different challenges and adventures.

How do I get there?

Fly into Verona Airport (VRN). From there a fixed-time, group transfer will run on both arrival and departure days, making the two hour journey between the airport and hotel.

Suggested Flights
  • Arrival Day: LGW 13:10 ✈ VRN 16:15 | Easyjet EZY8335
  • Departure Day: VRN 11:15 ✈ LGW 12:25 | Easyjet EZY8336

What time is the transfer?

We will collect you from Verona airport on arrival day and drop you back on the last day of the trip. You are responsible for getting yourself to Verona.

Transfer times:

  • Pick up on arrival day from Verona Airport: 17:15
  • Drop off on departure day back to Verona Airport: 09:15

The group transfer is included in your trip package. There is no discount if you choose not to use it.

What if my flight doesn't match the group transfer times?

We can arrange private transfers for different arrival or departure times, however always recommend trying to align flights with our transfer times. Private transfers can be costly!

What's the weather like in February and March?

Winter in the Dolomites means proper cold (-5°C to 5°C) and snow-covered mountains. However, it’s often sunny, with eight days of sun in 10. The weather changes fast in mountains – bring layers for all conditions.

Is the itinerary flexible?

Absolutely. Mountain weather can be unpredictable, so our guides adjust daily plans to ensure the best (and safest) experience. We have alternative routes ready if conditions change.

Do I need extra cash?

Budget €10-20 daily for extras like additional drinks at mountain huts or the hotel bar. Cards are widely accepted but bring some euros for the small huts on the trails that might be cash-only.
