Can't pick just one winter sport? Don't. Snowshoe, kayak, cross-country ski and horse ride your way through six days above the Arctic Circle in Lofoten. Learn from expert local guides as you explore an Arctic archipelago where mountains rise straight from the ocean and winter transforms the landscape into a snow-covered playground.

Each day brings a different way to see these islands. Trek to viewpoints, paddle coastal waters searching for wildlife, glide through forests on skis, and ride horses past Viking archaeological sites. Four yoga sessions help stretch out tired muscles between adventures.

Stay in a hotel with Lofoten's best spa - sauna, hot tub, and Arctic Ocean plunges for the brave. Restaurant dinners feature seasonal Norwegian dishes, before having a nightcap in the hotel’s gin bar. No previous experience needed with any activity, just decent fitness for consecutive active days.

Location

Lofoten Archipelago

Head to the edge of the Arctic Circle, where Lofoten stretches 100 miles into the Norwegian Sea. Face one way from our base on the east of the island and there's an endless sea dotted with tiny islands. Turn around and mountains dominate every view. Winter brings freezing temperatures and thick snow cover, turning hiking trails into cross-country skiing routes and coastal waters into Arctic kayaking territory.

It’s remote enough to feel wild, accessible enough to reach from Evenes Airport in 2.5 hours.

Activities

Snowshoeing

Snap on snowshoes and access terrain you couldn't reach in summer. Your daytime trek hits viewpoints while your guide fills you in on local stories. Then there's the evening snowshoe to Svolvær - just headtorches lighting your way through landscapes that look completely different in the dark. Bit atmospheric, bit eerie, very Lofoten.

Included:

  • All snowshoe equipment

  • Expert local guides

Kayaking

Pull on your life jacket and explore Lofoten's coastline from the water. Paddle icy Arctic waters with mountains as backdrop, landing on a remote beach for a picnic lunch. Keep watch for sea eagles (2-2.5m wingspans make them hard to miss) and other marine wildlife.

Included:

  • Kayaks and all safety equipment

  • Dry suits

  • Experienced kayak guides

Horse Riding

Saddle up for a ride through Lofoten's Viking history. The route takes you past archaeological sites where Vikings housed their longships, down to beaches, and along the coast through fishing ports.

Included:

  • Horse riding helmets

  • Guides familiar with the territory

Cross-Country Skiing

Spend a full day learning how to cross-country ski. You'll get the gliding basics down, probably fall over a bit (that's part of it), and by the afternoon you'll wonder why you haven't been doing this for years. No experience needed, your guide teaches you everything step by step.

Included:

  • Cross-country skis and boots

  • Expert ski instructors

Sea Eagle Safari

Head out on the water in a RIB boat for a wildlife safari. Sea eagles nest along Lofoten's coastlines, and the rich marine ecosystem supports seals, orcas, and diverse seabirds. No guarantees on what you'll spot (nature doesn't perform on schedule), but your guide knows where to look.

Included:

  • All safety equipment

    Knowledgeable wildlife guides

Spa Sessions

Access to Lofoten's best spa facilities. Rest tired muscles in the sauna and hot tub after active days. For those wanting the full Arctic experience, there's also the optional plunge into the Arctic Ocean - cold enough to properly shock your system, but that's the point.

Yoga

Stretch and strengthen between adventures with four yoga sessions throughout the week. Never set foot on a mat? It’s a common misconception that you need to be flexible to do yoga, but just turn up and your instructor will guide you through the rest.

Fitness and Experience Level

  • This trip is rated moderate.

Winter conditions in Lofoten require decent fitness. You'll be active every day, trying new activities and using muscles you might not have realised you owned. It's not a walk in the park, but we're not climbing Everest either.

  • Consecutive Activity Days

This trip involves several days of back-to-back activity in freezing temperatures, which tires you out. Cardiovascular fitness helps with endurance. If you do running, cycling, or anything that gets your heart pumping regularly, you'll manage fine. If you don't, we recommend you start now.

  • Never kayaked, snowshoed, skied cross-country or ridden a horse? Just bring your determination and willingness to learn. Expert guides teach you everything step by step.

  • If you’re active and want consecutive days trying multiple winter activities rather than focusing on one sport, this trip works. You'll be outdoors most days in freezing temperatures, so mental readiness for cold weather matters as much as physical fitness.

  • Stay in a cosy Norwegian hotel for the week, the perfect place for downtime after activity fuelled days.

Make the most of the spa facilities - Lofoten's best - with a sauna, hot tub, and Arctic Ocean access for evening recovery sessions.

The hotel restaurant serves two-course dinners showcasing seasonal Norwegian dishes. After dinner, explore the gin bar featuring Lofoten's biggest selection with gins from across Norway and beyond.

  • All meals included:

    • Breakfast: Continental buffet

    • Lunch: Packed lunches for activity days

    • Dinner: Two-course restaurant meals featuring seasonal Norwegian dishes like reindeer, Arctic fish, and warming soups.

    Dietary Requirements:

We cater for all dietary requirements, but being an island means fewer options available. Tell us in advance what you need - if we don't know beforehand, we might not be able to accommodate you.
