Fly into Verona, Italy

Six days snowshoeing across Stelvio National Park means six completely different trails — Dolomite spires one day, glaciated peaks the next. You'll learn actual avalanche safety skills with transceivers and probes, not just watch someone demonstrate.

Daily treks last 6-7 hours through snow-covered terrain, so bring fitness that can handle it. The trails aren't technical, but winter conditions demand focus — this isn't a gentle stroll.

Stay in a family-run hotel with wellness facilities. Lunch at working mountain dairies serving aged cheese and fresh canederli. The kind of week where you return home with legs that ache, photos your friends will ask about, and a genuine sense of achievement.

Location

Brenta Dolomites

Sitting to the west of the main range, the Brenta Dolomites have fewer crowds, but the same dramatic peaks. Jagged limestone spires that rip up from the valley floor, creating that iconic Dolomite skyline you've been scrolling past for years. You'll snowshoe directly beneath them, not just photograph them from a coach window.

Activities

The Ortler-Cevedale

The Ortler-Cevedale group sit within Stelvio National Park, which means wild terrain and zero crowds. Snow-covered slopes catching morning light, glaciers gleaming at midday, shadows carving ridgelines by afternoon. You won't summit these on snowshoes, but they're why every photo looks like you've gone way deeper into the mountains than most people ever will.

Stelvio National Park

Stelvio National Park is one of the largest protected areas in the Alps, and you'll be snowshoeing right through the heart of it. Its protected status means zero development, minimal crowds, and landscapes that look exactly like they did centuries ago. You're not here for interpretive signs or visitor centers; you're here because the valleys stay raw and the trails stay empty.

Snowshoeing

Snowshoeing is winter hiking with wider feet. The broad frame distributes your weight so you float on top of the snow instead of sinking thigh-deep. No technical skills needed, no previous experience required — if you can hike, you can snowshoe. It's what gets you into remote, snow-covered terrain that would otherwise be completely inaccessible.

Fitness and Experience Level

  • This trip is rated moderate.

You'll explore snow-covered mountain landscapes on this active adventure. No prior snowshoeing experience required, but a good level of fitness and a head for heights is essential for tackling mountain climbs.

  • Duration:

Prepare for long, active days in the fresh mountain air. Daily tours will last 6-7 hours with ascents of 320m to 570m, which is way harder going in the snow than hiking on solid ground.

    Intensity:

Expect steep ascents and descents, requiring a good fitness level. Terrain under foot (snowshoe) will also vary. Climbing mountains is rewarding, but it’s also hard work!

    Head for Heights:

Some sections may feature narrow paths with steeper drops on either side, so be prepared for exposure to heights

    Consecutive Activity:

Five consecutive days of physical activity, possibly using muscles you usually ignore. A good level of fitness means you’ll make the most of your adventure.

  • You don’t need to be an elite athlete, but if you regularly engage in activities like running, hiking, walking, or cycling, this trip will be a great fit. With five active days of snowshoeing through epic mountain landscapes, a good fitness level is integral to making the most of the experience.

  • Home for the week is a comfy family run hotel tucked off the tourist path. Cosy rooms, a small-but-perfectly-formed wellness centre, restaurant, bar and wifi throughout. What it lacks in luxury, it makes up for with friendly charm and comfortable beds. Which, after a day on the mountains, is all that matters.

  • All meals are included, from your welcome dinner, to breakfast before you depart. The hotel restaurant serves food sourced as locally as possible, using seasonal organic products to serve up hearty regional dishes. Filling breakfasts and satisfying dinners, with lunches either packed and eaten on the mountains or enjoyed at traditional alpine dairies.

We cater for all dietary requirements — let us know in advance.
