Hiking
Lace up and get outside. This fully guided, women-only day hike crosses Epping Forest from the Central line at Epping down to Chingford on the far side, in really good company.
Fifteen kilometres of ancient pollards, beech woodland, streams, ponds and Iron Age forts, and a good yap the whole way round. There’s a stop at the tea hut to refuel, and it’s London’s largest open space, though it won’t feel like London at all.
Even better, it’s all a short hope from central London.
No experience needed. Just comfortable boots, a decent level of fitness, and a willingness to get out there.

Yes, this is a good first long walk. It’s a ready-made hiking group, so you just need to turn up. The ground is gentle and the pace is steady, so it’s the distance you’re building up to rather than anything technical.
Yes! If you’re a keen walker, you’ll enjoy these routes.
You need to be happy walking 15km at about 3-4km an hour, over roughly five and a half hours. There’s a lunch break and stops for photos. More experienced walkers are welcome too, this one is about the forest and the company rather than the challenge.
All Gutsy Girls events are for over 18s only.
No! Our trips welcome adventurous women of all ages, from 18 to 70+. Most guests are in their 30s and 40s, but it’s your mindset, not your birth year, that matters.
Definitely. The vast majority of guests on this hike come solo. We’re a friendly bunch, so just come as you are.
Please bring a packed lunch and some snacks to keep you going for the day. There’s a tea hut on the route, so bring a bit of cash for a drink and a slice of cake.
We love dogs, but unfortunately, they are not allowed on our guided hikes.
Yes. Take the Central line to Epping for the 10am start. We finish at Chingford, which is on the Weaver line, so you can head straight home from there. Both are pay as you go, so an Oyster or contactless card will do it.
You’ll find car parks at and around the train stations where we will be meeting. Please check online for parking charges.
Another site to look for parking is Just Park.
Please only bring what you’ll need for the hike and what you can carry in your backpack as there is nowhere to leave extra belongings and valuables.
There will be limited toilet facilities on these hikes.
We have toilets at the start point and finish point at the train station and there may be opportunities to use bathrooms in local pubs or cafes. Otherwise nature will provide the facilities!
British summertime likes to keep us on our toes, so please arrive dressed for the activity and the weather.
* We highly recommend hiking boots or shoes for your safety and comfort when walking.
If you do choose to wear trainers, please make sure they are supportive and have good grip. You will not be allowed to join if you wear Converse or plimsole style shoes.
Please leave the weather watching to us! British weather is unpredictable and unless it’s awful, we’ll still hike.
Our guides will be monitoring the weather conditions in the lead up to your session and we will be in touch if we need to cancel.
Please contact the Gutsy Girls WhatsApp group you’ll have been invited to. We will try to accommodate you but we need to be fair to the group and we cannot guarantee we will be able to wait for you.
