Escape the City this Weekend
Paddleboard 9km down the River Wey, from Godalming to Guildford on this guided, small group adventure. Take in historic locks, lush green fields, weeping willows and the Surrey Hills rolling in the distance. No experience is needed; your instructor covers everything before you hit the water, and the downstream current does some of the heavy lifting too. This is a five hour guided day out on the water, finishing at Dapdune Wharf, a National Trust site in Guildford with a tearoom, facilities and an easy walk back to the train station. The start is a straightforward 40-minute train ride from London Waterloo.

Ever paddleboarded through the English countryside? The River Wey is the perfect place to find out what you’ve been missing, and all just outside London. You’ll cover 9km downstream from Godalming to Guildford on this small group adventure,, learning to read the water, work on your balance and build confidence on the board, all with an expert instructor by your side.
Historic locks, open meadows and weeping willows line the banks as you paddle through. The downstream current keeps things moving, giving you space to focus on technique and take in the surroundings.
It’s a five hour guided session and finishes at Dapdune Wharf in Guildford where there’s a tearoom waiting.

We meet at Godalming Wharf (13 min walk from the train station) at 10am. Toilets and changing facilities are available on site.
There will be a vehicle meeting you at the end to collect the boards which can bring any bags you don’t want to carry on the board with you from the start to the end point.
At the historic Dapdune Wharf, Guildford, at 3.30pm. Dapdune Wharf is a scenic National Trust site with toilets, tearoom and an easy landing. No walking with boards required! It’s a short walk to Guildford train station.
We chose this location due to its easy access from central London by train. You can travel from Waterloo to Godalming train station and take a 13 minute walk through town to our meeting point.
The finish point is only 10 minutes walk from Guildford mainline station, where you can get a train back to Godalming.
You’ll receive a link to join a WhatsApp group with the other Gutsy Girls on your event, and you can use this to arrange travel or share lifts as you please.
Yes, free parking is available at the start. After the trip, you can take a £13 taxi back to Godalming Wharf if needed or catch the train.
The adventure runs from 10am-3pm.
No experience needed! This 9km trip is perfect for beginners and intermediate paddlers. Our expert instructor will guide you through the basics before we set off.
You don’t need to be a swimmer, but should be comfortable around water. You will be provided with a buoyancy aid.
You’re welcome to! Just let us know in advance. We use high spec Red Paddle Co touring boards. No discount for bringing your own.
The standard boards are designed to support guests up to 110kg to ensure stability and safety on the water. If you are above this weight, we’d love to hear from you before booking so we can make arrangements. We want to make sure everyone has a fun, safe, and comfortable time on the water.
We provide a 10L dry bag for essentials, and a support vehicle transports extra bags from start to finish.
Toilets and changing rooms are available at the start. There are also toilets at the finish point. Expect to wild wee en route if needed!
We will provide a 10 litre dry bag to bring belongings with you on the board. There will be a vehicle meeting you at the end to collect the boards which can bring any bags you don’t want to carry on the board with you from the start to the end point.
All Gutsy Girls events are for over 18s only.
No! Our trips welcome adventurous women of all ages, from 18 to 70+. Most guests are in their 30s and 40s, but it’s your mindset, not your birth year, that matters.
Definitely! Most Gutsy Girls join solo and leave with new friends. Come as you are, we’re a super friendly bunch.
