Open plateau, wild reindeer, big skies
New to mountain hiking? Rondane National Park is where you start. It’s Norway’s oldest national park, with open plateaus, river valleys, wild reindeer and views that go on forever, and you’ve got three full days to explore it on foot. Expect 13–15km daily with a bit of elevation gain in places, led by expert local guides who’ll teach you the basics of mountain hiking as you go. Back at the mountain hotel there’s yoga, a sauna, three-course dinners and a very cold lake if you’re up for it. Your local walk just got a serious upgrade.

Activity Overview
Spend three days hiking in the Rondane National Park – Norway’s oldest and (in our opinion) best park. You’ll cover 13–15km daily across open plateau, forest trails and river valleys, with a small amount of elevation gain each day (280–340m).
No scrambling, no exposed ridges, just varied mountain terrain that’ll build your confidence and your legs in equal measure.
Your local guides know these routes inside out and will cover the things that actually make a difference on the trail: pole technique, pacing and how to read the ground ahead of you.
Activity Overview
Join three sessions across the week, each focused on recovery and mobility. When the weather plays along, sessions move lakeside. When it doesn’t, you’ll be in the hotel’s yoga studio. Never done yoga before? That’s fine, just turn up and follow the instructor. Your legs will thank you in the morning.
Activity Overview
Follow Norwegian tradition with sauna sessions and wild lake swimming (if you’re brave enough for mountain water that’ll wake every nerve ending!)

Moderate Norway’s mountain terrain is uneven and rocky underfoot, and it’ll ask more of your legs than your usual routes might. These aren’t paved paths, there are steady climbs along the way, and you’ll be on your feet for four to five hours a day. The answers
Yes. It’s designed as a genuine introduction to mountain hiking. The routes have no scrambling, no exposed ridges and no technical sections. Your guide will cover pole technique, pacing and reading the terrain as you go. What you do need is a good base fitness. If you walk, run, cycle or do any regular exercise, you’re ready for this.
This trip is rated moderate. You’ll cover 13–15km per day across three consecutive hiking days, with 280–340m of elevation gain each day on open plateau, forest trails and mountain paths. Endurance is needed, not just for one day but three back-to-back. If you’re used to regular exercise and long active days don’t faze you, you’ll manage well.
It’s restorative and focused on stretching and recovery after full days on the trail. The three sessions are suitable for all levels, including complete beginners and will take place by the lake when the weather plays along or in the hotel’s yoga studio when it doesn’t. Yoga mats are provided.
Trekking poles, waterproof backpack covers, gaiters and lunchboxes are all included. Bring your own 20–30L daypack, hiking boots and clothing layers.
Fly into Oslo Gardermoen (OSL), then take the train to Ringebu station, approximately 2.5 hours away. We’ll then meet you at Ringebu station and drive you to the hotel (a 20-minute transfer). Book tickets via vy.no/en or sj.no. Tickets go on sale 60–90 days before travel and cost approximately £30 each way and are not included in the trip price.
Our transfer runs from Ringebu train station to your hotel on arrival and departure day. You are responsible for getting to Ringebu station – train tickets can be purchased 60-90 days in advance from vy.no/en.
Transfer timings:
If your flight is delayed or cancelled, you’ll need to arrange your own way to Ringebu. Your host is your main contact on the day, and the bookings team is available Monday to Friday, 9am–5:30pm UK time. Comprehensive travel insurance covering delays and missed connections is mandatory for all Gutsy Girls trips.
You’ll stay at a family-run mountain lodge at the edge of Rondane National Park. It has cosy en-suite rooms with mountain views, a communal lounge with an open fire, bar, yoga studio, sauna and complimentary tea and coffee. The hotel is dog-friendly with two or three resident dogs (They stay out of bedrooms but you’ll see them in the lounge – worth knowing if you have allergies or aren’t a dog person.)
Norwegian summers can be warm and sunny, but also cool, wet and changeable, sometimes in the same day. Pack layers and waterproofs regardless of the forecast and dress as you would for a UK autumn. Check yr.no close to your trip for the most accurate mountain forecast.
The meals are traditional, homemade and a genuine highlight. A generous breakfast buffet kicks off each morning (you’ll also make your packed lunch from it), and there’s a three-course set menu dinner each evening using local produce. All meals are included, drinks are not.
Yes. The hotel caters well for all dietary needs and allergies. Make sure to note your requirements clearly on your check-in form after booking, and include anything you really won’t eat. Dinner is a set menu and can’t be changed on the day if requirements haven’t been flagged in advance.
No. Cards are accepted everywhere on this trip. You won’t need Norwegian krone unless you’d like to tip your guide or host.
