Tyinkrysset, Norway

Based on the doorstep of Jotunheimen National Park, this trip takes in Norway at its most dramatic, where fjords, glaciers and mountain peaks collide. Trails lead straight from the hotel door, the sauna is waiting when you get back, and the tourist crowds are nowhere to be seen. Over seven days, you'll hike ridgelines and climb to the top of one of Northern Europe's highest waterfalls, eBike from altitude down to fjord level, walk out onto a real glacier, and paddle through Sognefjord with mountains rising on all sides. Full days, big landscapes.
Everything is taken care of: expert local guides, quality kit, three-course dinners, and a comfy mountain hotel to relax in each night. No experience is needed for any of the activities; all you need to do is show up and bring your appetite for adventure.
Location
Tyin Filefjell sits at 1,000m above sea level, where Norway's wildest fjords and most dramatic peaks collide, right on the doorstep of Jotunheimen National Park. In summer, this place comes into its own. Trails lead straight from the hotel door across open mountain terrain, up to ridgelines, summit peaks and thundering waterfalls.
Head a little further afield and you’ll find glaciers open for hiking, as well as opportunities for watersports in Sognefjord, Norway’s deepest and longest fjord. From accessible lakeside loops to serious summit days above 2,000m, the routes here are made for outdoor adventure, and all of it well away from the tourist crowds.
Hiking
Over two and a half days you’ll trek through the dramatic Norwegian highlands, taking in hikes across the sweeping ridgeline of Filefjell and to Vettisfossen, one of Northern Europe's highest free-falling waterfalls. Hike along mountain paths with peaks towering on either side, through national parks and up to incredible view points. Distances range from 9-13.5km - manageable, but fitness and good footwear are essential.
Included:
Two and a half days of hiking
Up to 800m elevation gain
Expert local guide throughout the week
eBiking
Discover the hype with a day eBiking through the Norwegian countryside. The high quality eBikes make exploring easier, as you cycle down country roads and along wilderness paths with views of Sognefjord’s mountains as your backdrop.
Although you do still need to peddle, change gear and negotiate different terrains, eBikes help add a bit of extra power when you need it most. It makes it a brilliant way of navigating longer routes so you can really explore, whilst not taking everything out of your legs.
Included:
Expert guides
High spec eBikes
Glacier Hike
Strap on crampons and a harness, rope up as a team, and let your guide take you out onto Falkbreen - a real, moving body of ice deep in Jotunheimen National Park. As you navigate the glacier, your guide will walk you through how to move safely on ice and the forces that shape it.
Included:
All equipment
Glacier hiking briefing
Sea Kayaking
Near the end of the week we swap land for water and head to Norway's longest and deepest fjord, Sognefjord. Dubbed “King of the Fjords”, paddle in double kayaks between towering mountains, surrounded by the kind of landscape that makes Norway legendary. No kayaking experience needed, our guides will teach you the moves. For those who want, there’s also an option to embrace your inner polar bear and take a dip in the ice-cold water.
Included:
Expert kayaking guide
All kayaking equipment
Optional fjord swimming
Sauna
After a long day in the mountains, head to the riverside sauna. Perched beside the Begna river with Mt. Skørsnøse dominating the view, this is where tired legs recover and minds switch off as you feel your muscles unknot.
Included:
Three sauna sessions
Mountain views

Fitness and Experience Level
-
This trip is rated moderate.
You'll be active every day, trying a completely different activity. You don't need to be an elite athlete, but with consecutive days of activity, you do need solid base fitness and the willingness to keep going when your legs are telling you otherwise. Come prepared, and you'll have an amazing trip. Show up underprepared, and you'll wish you'd done a few more weekends in the hills first.
-
Duration: 7 nights, 8 days, with six days of activity sandwiched between.
Distance: Active days cover various distances depending on the activity. The two main hikes are 9km and 13.5km, whilst the eBike day covers around 45km, and the kayak session is a half-day paddle on Sognefjord. The amount of time spent on the glacier will vary, depending on the conditions.
Terrain: Varied. Expect open mountain ridgelines, rocky ascents, glacier ice and valley trails. Some paths are well-marked; others are rugged underfoot. Good grip on your boots is non-negotiable.
Heights: Your base at Filefjellstuene sits at 1,000m above sea level. The Filefjell Ridge hike takes you to around 1,450m across three peaks and the Vettisfossen hike involves 800m of elevation gain. The glacier sits deep in Jotunheimen National Park, and your guide will brief you on everything before you step onto the ice.
Consecutive Days: Most days involve several hours of activity, for six days straight. There's a sauna waiting for you on three evenings, but be prepared to be active and outside for long hours most days.
Accommodation: You'll be based for the entire week at a well-equipped mountain hotel with comfortable en-suite rooms, a restaurant serving three-course dinners each evening, and a riverside sauna. No moving between hotels, no repacking every other day. One great base, all week.
Weather: Norway in summer is spectacular, showcasing long daylight hours, dramatic skies and lush green landscapes. It is also Norway though, so pack for all eventualities. Layers, waterproofs and decent boots are essential regardless of the forecast. Your guides will always make the call on what's safe and what's sensible.
-
If you've got a good base fitness, are up for trying new activities, and excited about exploring this pocket of Norway from every angle - yes. If you're coming straight off the sofa with zero training - not this year.
-
Stay in newly renovated rooms with private bathrooms, proper beds, and views straight onto the mountains. After days spent out in the mountains, you'll be glad of the comfort. Both single and twin rooms are available.
-
Enjoy three-course dinners showcase local Norwegian ingredients - think reindeer, warming soups, and dishes designed to refuel tired legs. Breakfasts set you up for mountain days, and packed lunches keep you going on the trails.
We accommodate most dietary requirements with advance notice. However, tell us early as sourcing specialty ingredients in the mountains takes planning.
