Stay in mountain accommodation with daily yoga sessions and lake swimming that'll wake you up properly. Leave with scrambling confidence and a serious Norwegian mountain addiction.

Location

Norway is renowned for its breathtaking natural beauty, and the country's national parks offer some of the most stunning hiking experiences in the world. On this adventure we’ll be exploring both Rondane, and Jotunheimen.

Jotunheimen National Park, aptly nicknamed "The Home of the Giants," lives up to its name. Towering peaks pierce the sky, their jagged forms sculpted by ancient glaciers. Among them, Galdhøpiggen, the highest summit in Northern Europe, rises majestically. Deep valleys cradle sparkling lakes, reflecting the grandeur above. Cascading waterfalls add a touch of untamed beauty, completing this awe-inspiring landscape.

Activities

Hiking

Trek through the contrasting landscapes of two national parks - from Rondane's ancient ridges to Jotunheimen's soaring peaks. Cover 12-20km daily across mountain terrain, navigating steep ascents up to 1100m elevation gain, scrambling over exposed ridges, and dealing with unpredictable weather.

Your expert guides teach essential skills while you hike including- proper use of poles, map reading, and scrambling techniques. Each day builds your abilities for the trip's highlight: Besseggen Ridge.

  • Three days hiking: 12km, 15km, and 20km routes

  • Scrambling sections and exposed ridges

  • Skills instruction from two mountain guides

Besseggen Ridge

Tackle Norway's most famous hike along a narrow mountain ridge with dramatic drops on both sides. Scramble across rocky sections where you'll need hands and feet to navigate the terrain, all while being rewarded with panoramic views across Jotunheimen.

This challenging route demands a head for heights and solid scrambling skills. Not feeling it? No judgment - with two guides, we can split the group so you can opt for a different route that better suits your comfort level. Either way, you'll experience the contrasting lakes and mountain vistas that make this area special.

Scrambling

Use your hands and feet to navigate steep rocky sections where regular hiking becomes climbing without ropes. Move across exposed rock faces and negotiate boulder fields that require balance, coordination, and a steady head for heights.

Your guides teach hand and foot placement, how to test holds, and safe movement techniques as you encounter these sections during your hikes. Think controlled movement over uneven terrain where three points of contact keep you stable.

Yoga

Three yoga sessions to stretch out after long hiking days. Practice by the lake when weather permits, or in the hotel's yoga studio when it doesn't.

Never done yoga before? The sessions cater to all levels, focusing on gentle stretches that help your body recover from daily elevation gains and scrambling over rocky terrain.

Wild Swimming

Follow Norwegian tradition with sauna sessions and wild lake swimming (if you're brave enough for mountain water that'll wake every nerve ending!). Sleep comes very easy after days like these.

Fitness and Experience Level

  • You’ll need to be hiking fit for this adventure. While you don't need to be an experienced hiker, you will need good endurance, some power in the legs for climbing uphill and a positive attitude towards challenges!

Trip Difficulty: We've rated this trip as moderate to challenging, considering the terrain, distances, and elevation. It's vital to have a good level of fitness and endurance to fully enjoy and participate in the hikes.

  • Duration: On the more challenging days, expect to hike for up to 9 hours. These hikes will take you through remote and wild landscapes, offering a true wilderness experience.

Distance: The hikes will cover distances of 15km, 20km, and 12km. Assess your ability to handle these distances in mountainous terrain.

Elevation: Be prepared for uphill climbs reaching up to 1100m. Comfort with both ascending and descending is important.

  • Terrain: Expect rocky and uneven trails in some areas, adding to the hike's intensity.

Scrambling: Some parts of the hike will involve some scrambling, which requires using your hands and feet to navigate terrain, without the need for ropes.

Heights: The hike includes exposed ridges, so a comfort level with heights is necessary.

Consecutive Days of Activity: The itinerary involves hiking for three consecutive days, which can be physically demanding and requires stamina.

Weather Considerations: While we hope for sunny days, the weather in the mountains can change rapidly. Come prepared with appropriate clothing for hiking in various weather conditions, including rain

  • You'll stay at a family-run mountain hotel with views that stretch for miles from every window. It's the kind of cosy, traditional place with a lounge warmed by an open fire, a yoga studio, sauna, and a lake cold enough to shock your system if you're up for wild swimming.

  • Expect hearty Norwegian food designed to fuel active days—breakfast and lunch to keep you going, plus a three-course dinner each evening. We cater for all dietary requirements, just let us know what you need.
