Day Hikes

We’ve added three new exciting day hikes to our list of adventures this summer, both a short hop from London. Escape the city on a Gutsy Girls guided walking tour of some of the most beautiful countryside and wildlife within easy reach of the capital. 

Our day hikes are fully guided, women only walks with a focus on connecting with nature and reaping the rewards of time spent in the outdoors. We’ll be ambling through woodlands, meadows and riversides, spotting wildlife and soaking up the benefits of miles and miles of gorgeous green space. Leave the rat race behind and enjoy a slice of stunning English countryside while meeting like-minded women and making new friends.

 
 

Chess River Valley Walk, Herts

Join us on an 11 mile walk of the stunning, undulating Chess River Valley in the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, a hike guaranteed to refresh the senses and leave you feeling rejuvenated by the power of nature.

  • Meet Point: Chorleywood

  • Time: 10am - 2:30pm

  • Distance: 11 miles (18km)

  • Difficulty rating: Intermediate

  • Pace: Intermediate pace covering 11 miles with breaks and lunch

Starting from the peaceful town of Chorleywood, this guided walk covers a spectacular sweeping landscape, home to the Chess River and its sparkling chalk waters. Our journey will take us over pleasant meadows, along a winding riverside course, across open fields with impressive valley views, and through pine forests and a beautiful Beech woodland. Our route will loop back through this enchanting location to our starting point.

Chess River Valley is rich in wildlife, with kingfishers, water voles, brown trout, orchids and dragonflies all local inhabitants of the stream.

 
 

The Epping Forest Day Walk

Join us on a 10 mile walk into the heart and through the historic woodlands of Epping Forest, London’s largest open spaces at 6000 acres and home to over 5500 trees and plenty of wildlife too!

  • Meet Point: Loughton Station (central line)

  • Time: 10am - 2:30pm

  • Distance: 10 mile (16km)

  • Difficulty rating: Intermediate

  • Pace: Beginner to intermediate pace covering 10 miles with breaks and lunch.

 

Join us for a beautiful walk through the historic woodlands of Epping Forest, home to ancient pollard trees and vast beech woodlands. Our walk takes us on small trails following streams, through quiet and enchanting woodland. During the walk you’ll learn about tree species and how they can help us navigate and plants that can help us find water.

CAN I COME SOLO?

Yes! We encourage everyone to join our sessions solo; around 95% of our attendees come alone. We are all about connecting like-minded women through adventure, sports and nature.

Circular route returning to Chorley around 2:30pm

Epping Forest Walk

10am outside Loughton Station (central line)

Circular route returning to Loughton station around 2:30pm

WHAT TO BRING

  • Packed lunch and snacks

  • Sun hat

  • Sunglasses

  • Comfortable hiking clothes

  • Walking boots, walking shoes or sturdy trainers

  • Waterproof jacket

  • Sunscreen

  • Water bottle or water reservoir 

  • Backpack to carry it all!

Walk Wild Terms and Conditions - (per May 5th 2020)

All events are run by Ian Finch Walk Wild (the organiser). By joining any event you are agreeing to the terms and conditions below. If you don't agree with these in full you must not sign up to the event.

In consideration of being allowed to participate in the activities with Walk Wild, I acknowledge that as of 5th April 2020:

1.     I am aware of and understand the potential risk and dangers associated with physical activity outdoors in a woodland, forest, hill based, mountain environment and I am voluntarily participating in these activities with knowledge of the risks and dangers involved.

2.     I understand that that exercise activities outdoors involve a risk of injury and that I am voluntarily participating in these activities with knowledge of the dangers involved. I hereby agree and expressly assume ALL and ANY risks of injury, illness or death.

3.     I know of no reason why I should not participate in any of the activities with WalkWild. I hereby declare myself free of any condition, disease, infirmity or illness that may prevent my participation. I agree to inform Ian Finch and where appropriate provide written consent from my doctor should such a condition or complaint arise before continuing with any activity.

4.     I am aware I have the opportunity to ask questions about these activities and other general related issues, like Covid-19 procedures and regulations prior to the event in question. If I choose not to take any advice or disregard any advice given, I do so voluntarily and accept liability for all resulting injuries or damage.

5.     I am aware that Ian is a former Royal Marine Commando, Level 2 Fitness Instructor and is a Mountain Leader (trainee only). I am aware he currently has public liability insurance cover. I attend and participate in any activities with WalkWild and Gutsy Girls 100% under my own risk. I hereby agree and expressly assume all and any risk of injury or death.

6.     I do hereby waive, release and discharge Ian Finch, Walk Wild and Gutsy Girls from any and all responsibility or liability for injuries, illness or damages resulting from my participation in any activities while under his supervision of WalkWild.

7.     These terms and conditions have been read fully and to the best of my knowledge and belief.

Clothing and equipment:

For all activities, suitable clothing for the weather conditions, duration of walk and location conditions is required. For walks, this includes suitable footwear (waterproof hiking boots on hikes recommended), comfortable trousers, and a waterproof layer in case of rain. This will change due to location and weather conditions as advised by Ian. As the participant, it is your responsibility to be suitably dressed and equipped for the event you have chosen to join. Advertised walks are subject to change if necessitated by safety considerations.

Participation Statement:

By booking onto a Walk Wild Meetup you accept that you are participating in any activities of your own accord, entirely at your own risk & expressly accept that the organiser does not have any responsibility or liability for loss or injury. However, Ian is fully insured with Public Liability Insurance.


You agree that Walk Wild bears no responsibility for the accuracy of information regarding public transport costs, times and conditions of carriage or statistical, technical or safety specifications regarding equipment, facilities, timings or costing.

Your booking, payment, actual or intended participation also indicates your agreement that Ian Finch (the organiser) reserves the right to change at any time & without prior or written notice the start, finish, duration, location, terms for any meetup, without a necessity to make refunds for doing so.

It is your responsibility to inform the event organiser about any relevant health condition & to ensure you’re personally satisfied with any agreed actions relating to it. It is recommended that you take out appropriate insurance for any activities/travel that you engage in.

Acceptance on trips:

Acceptance on Walk Wild trips is subject to discretion and if it is deemed prior to a trip that someone is not suitable for a trip for any of a variety of reasons (at my discretion), a refund will be given to the attendee and the booking cancelled.

Cancellation and Refunds - Inc New Covid-19 regulations:


With new Covid 19 regulations and restrictions WalkWild may need to cancel, postpone or change the date of an event at any time due to those external factors, only as directed by the UK government. If I cancel an event you can either move your payment to an event on an alternative date or I can provide you with a full refund. I am not responsible for any incidental expenses that you may have incurred.

Due to recent events of Covid-19 pandemic and as of May 2020 I hereby agree that:

  1. I am aware of and understand the potential risk and dangers, at this time with the Covid-19 pandemic, of associated with physical activity outdoors in a woodland, forest, hill based, mountain environment and I am voluntarily participating in these activities with knowledge of the risks and dangers involved.

  2. I attend knowing clearly the current government regulations on travel and social distancing measures, and i will attend whilst strictly practising these government restrictions until told to do otherwise.

  3. I will practice strict social distances measures whilst on any event organised by WalkWild

  4. By attending of my own accord I do hereby waive, release and discharge Ian Finch and Walk Wild from any and all responsibility or liability for injuries, illness or damages associated with Covid-19 resulting from my participation in any activities while under his supervision of WalkWild.
