SURREY SUP Adventure

Join Gutsy Girls for our exclusive women-only SUP adventure in Surrey! We’ll be paddling downstream from Godalming to Guildford on one of the most beautiful stretches of the River Wey. Depending on your instructor, you may be offered some mindfulness and yoga exercises as we go to allow us to connect more deeply with the serene surroundings.

Our Surrey SUP adventure is a whole day of paddleboarding and is suitable for beginners and intermediate paddleboarders, with no previous experience necessary.

We’ll be paddling over 8km, with a stop for lunch (bring your own packed lunch!), and the downstream current will mean we can relax into the journey and appreciate the pretty landscape around us, including views of the stunning Surrey hills to the east. It’s the perfect opportunity to build your confidence on the board while escaping the busyness of the everyday and reconnecting with nature.

THE PADDLE

Our adventure starts in picturesque Godalming, a quintessential English country market town which is just 40 minutes from London Waterloo by train.

We’ll meet at Godalming Wharf at 10am, which is just a short walk from Godalming train station through the beautiful town park. We’ll hit the water and our expert instructor will coach us through paddling skills - essential for beginners but also useful if you’ve been paddleboarding before but could do with a refresher!

Once everyone is ready and feels confident to set off, we’ll start our SUP adventure, gliding downstream towards the Surrey hills on one of the most glorious stretches of the River Wey, surrounded by beautiful green landscape and waterside wildlife.

We’ll stop off in a lovely peaceful spot for a picnic lunch (bring your own!) and we’ll take the opportunity to fully relax and engage with the natural surroundings and really benefit from spending time in the tranquil environment.

We’ll then continue paddling downstream, putting what we’ve learned about mindfulness into practice on our boards, and will arrive at Millmead Lock in Guildford at around 3pm. Our finish point is a very short walk from Guildford train station, and there are a few local pubs nearby if we fancy a drink or something to eat after our day on the water.

Beginner friendly adventure

You don’t need any previous experience to join as our instructor will guide you through everything you need to know to paddle confidently on the water, and all essential equipment is provided. We’ll go at a relaxed pace, taking in the captivating surroundings as we go. Plus the downstream direction we’ll be taking means this should be a calm and comfortable day out on the water.

If you’ve done paddleboarding before, you’ll definitely still get something from this adventure as you’ll find our SUP route to be an unmissably gorgeous one, no matter your experience level!

LOCATION

Our Surrey SUP adventure takes place on the River Wey, a tributary of the Thames and one of the first British rivers to be made navigable. It’s a tranquil waterway that runs through the heart of Surrey, and we’ll be paddling approximately 8km of it between the beautiful historic market town of Godalming and the larger, vibrant country town of Guildford. Both towns are easy and convenient to get to and from by train.

We’ll glide over still waters through changing scenery, passing historic locks, pretty cottages, lush green fields and beautiful weeping willows on the river’s edge, spotting the rolling Surrey hills in the distance. It’s the perfect location to get away from the city and immerse ourselves in nature, made all the more meaningful by practicing mindfulness on our journey.
