New Year’s Eve Winter Holidays: Adventure Trips to Kick Start 2026
New Year's Eve often falls into two camps: the party that's fine but forgettable, or staying in and calling it a night before midnight. Neither is particularly memorable.
What if this year you did something different? Spent New Year's Eve learning to ski in Sweden, exploring Finland's national parks, or gliding through Norwegian valleys on cross-country skis?
We've got five active New Year's Eve trips still available across the Nordics. Small groups of adventurous women, expert guides, stunning winter landscapes, and everything organised for you. Here's your guide to alternative New Year's Eve ideas for 2025/26.
Our New Year's Eve Winter Trips (Spots Still Available)

Perfect for beginners dreaming of a ski holiday but unsure where to start. Spend six days learning downhill skiing in the uncrowded Swedish resort of Trillevallen, just 25km from Åre.
What makes this trip special for New Year's Eve:
Night skiing under the stars
Small group lessons with personalised coaching
Evening sledge ride through starlit mountains
Traditional alpine lodge with crackling fires and sauna
Cross-country skiing to mix things up
This beginner ski holiday includes all equipment, lift passes, lessons, and meals. No previous experience needed—just bring decent fitness and determination.
Finland Multi-Activity Adventure
Dates: 28 December 2025 - 4 January 2026 Location: Hossa National Park, Finland From: £1,700
New: We've just added a transfer pickup from Rovaniemi, making flights much more affordable.
This is your chance to try everything—snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and fat biking through pristine Finnish forest. The highlight? An overnight expedition to an off-grid cabin where you'll spend New Year's Eve by candlelight with a wood stove, traditional sauna, and hopefully the Northern Lights dancing overhead.
What's included in this winter adventure holiday:
6 days of guided activities across three winter sports
All equipment (snowshoes, skis, bikes, cold-weather gear)
7 nights accommodation including wilderness cabin stay
Nightly saunas and ice swimming opportunities
Visit to a reindeer farm
All meals cooked over open fires
If you can't decide which winter sport to try, this multi-activity trip lets you experience them all. Perfect for active beginners.
Finland Snowshoeing Expedition
Dates: 28 December 2025 - 4 January 2026 Location: Hossa National Park, Finland From: £1,650 Status: 7 guests already booked
This snowshoeing holiday is filling up fast. Spend a week deep in Finland's Hossa National Park, covering 6-11km daily through varied terrain—silent forests, frozen lakes, and snow-covered ridges.
The New Year's Eve experience:
You'll spend two nights (including NYE) in off-grid cabins with no electricity. Just candles, wood stoves, wood-fired saunas, and the chance to see the Northern Lights. It's as far from a typical New Year as you can get.
Snowshoeing requires no technical skill—if you can hike, you can snowshoe. But the deep snow (60-70cm) and consecutive active days mean you'll need good fitness. This is a true backcountry adventure for women seeking something authentic.
Sweden Cross-Country Ski and Yoga Retreat
Dates: 28 December 2025 - 4 January 2026 Location: Bruksvallarna, Sweden From: £2,050
Spend New Year's Eve in the heart of Sweden's winter wonderland. This cross-country ski retreat gives you five days to explore 300km of groomed trails, with yoga sessions to ease tired muscles.
What makes this NYE trip special:
Mountain dinner reached by snowcat on New Year's Eve
Option to be towed behind the snowcat for adrenaline seekers
Traditional mountain hotel with sauna and ice bathing
Mix of cross-country skiing and snowshoeing
Small group of 10 women
Cross-country skiing is easier to learn than downhill—you'll be gliding confidently within hours. But it's still a workout (think "running on skis"), so come with decent fitness.
Norway Cross-Country Ski and Yoga Retreat
Dates: 28 December 2025 - 4 January 2026 Location: Venabygdsfjellet, near Lillehammer From: £2,300 (twin) | £2,550 (private room) Status: Only 2 spots left (just 1 private room available)
Our Norwegian retreat is nearly sold out. Learn cross-country skiing in the mountains near Lillehammer, with extras like dog sledding and a horse-drawn sleigh ride thrown in.
New Year's Eve in Norway includes:
5 days of cross-country skiing with expert instruction
Dog sledding experience with your own husky team
Horse sleigh ride through snow-covered forest
5 yoga sessions in a mountain studio
Small group of just 8 women
Traditional mountain hotel with exceptional food
This is ideal if you want to learn cross-country skiing but also experience other quintessential Nordic winter activities. The small group size and cosy hotel create a relaxed, social atmosphere for ringing in the New Year.

Frequently Asked Questions About NYE Winter Adventures
Do I need experience for these winter trips?
No. All our New Year's Eve adventure holidays welcome beginners. You'll get expert instruction and progress at your own pace. However, you do need good general fitness for most trips—we're talking 5-7 hours of activity daily.
What if I'm traveling solo?
Most of our guests travel solo. That's the whole point—you'll join a small group of like-minded women all looking for adventure. Our hosts ensure smooth group dynamics from day one.
What's included in the price?
All trips include accommodation, guided activities, equipment hire, most meals, expert instruction, and airport transfers. You just need to book flights, bring appropriate clothing, and show up ready to go.
How cold will it be?
December/January temperatures range from -5°C to -20°C depending on location. We'll send detailed packing lists, and many trips include warm gear hire (mittens, snow boots). Layering is key, and you'll stay warm through activity.
Can I see the Northern Lights?
Finland and Norway trips offer excellent Northern Lights opportunities due to their remote locations and dark skies. We can't guarantee sightings (it's nature, after all), but we'll have plenty of evenings to watch for them.
