Tyinkrysset, Norway
You've tried cross-country skiing and you're hooked. Now it's time to level up.
This week pushes your technique and stamina further. We start with a technical refresh, then build up to longer, more demanding routes through wilderness terrain. By mid-week you're covering distances that would've seemed unthinkable at the start. Your experienced instructor will focus on efficiency - how to generate power, maintain momentum, and conserve energy over hours on the trails.
Mid-week, we’ll also hit the water with a day’s kayak on Sognefjord before you put the skis back on for your final big mountain days.
We’ll be staying in a modern mountain hotel, with a riverside sauna, three-course dinners, and yoga sessions designed for recovery. Everything's arranged so you can focus on skiing further and faster than before.
Location
Tyin sits at 1000m above sea level between Lake Tyin and Filefjell, where the mountains meet the fjords at the gateway to Jotunheimen National Park. One of Southern Norway's snowiest areas, winter brings deep powder and hundreds of kilometres of prepared cross-country ski tracks stretching through forests and across high mountain plateaus. Forget the tourist-packed resorts though - this is where wilderness enthusiasts come to explore remote terrain, away from the crowds.
The Cross Country Skiing
The trail network is groomed regularly and offers varied terrain, from gentle valley tracks that let you blow the cobwebs off your ski technique, to rolling hills and longer routes, perfect for the rest of your week. It’s small-scale compared to other ski centres, which means you'll have space to re-find your rhythm without navigating hoards of other skiers.
Activities
Cross Country Skiing
Cross-country skiing gets you deep into wilderness areas most people never reach. At improver level, you're ready for longer routes, more technical terrain, and building the endurance to ski all day. We'll refine your technique, work on hill climbing efficiency, and help you tackle more challenging trails with confidence.
The trail network offers varied terrain; from rolling hills to challenging climbs and long descents.
Each day builds on the last. It's demanding, but that's the point. By the end of the week, you'll be skiing routes that push your limits and accessing wild locations that make it all worthwhile.
Included:
Ski & boot hire
Expert technical coaching
Experienced instructors
Progressive route planning
Views for days
Sea Kayaking
Mid-week, we swap skis for paddles and head to Norway's longest and deepest fjord. Your ski legs get a break while your upper body does a bit more work.
Paddle between towering mountains in the kind of landscape that makes Norway legendary, then recover in the nearby sauna. No kayaking experience needed, our guides will show you the ropes. For those keen, there's also the option to take a dip in the winter-cold fjord.
Included:
Expert kayaking guide
All kayaking equipment
Mobile sauna session
Optional fjord swimming
Yoga
After long days covering serious distances on skis, you'll need this. We work with local instructors who understand what cross-country skiing does to your body and what you need to recover. It’s functional stretching that gets you ready for the next trails.
Riverside Sauna
After hours in the mountains, the riverside sauna will feel non-negotiable. Perched beside the Begna River with Mt. Skørsnøse dominating the view, this is where tired muscles recover and you process what you've just accomplished. Heat, steam, river views, silence.
Included:
Three sauna sessions
River views
Post-ski recovery
Fitness and Experience Level
-
This trip is rated moderate.
This will suit active women with existing cross-country skiing experience who are ready to push further. You need solid fitness, determination, and the ability to handle consecutive long days on skis while continuing to learn and improve.
Long hours outdoors, technical terrain, and physically demanding routes mean you'll be working hard every day. If you're comfortable with the uncomfortable and ready to level up your skiing, this is for you.
-
6-8 hours of activity daily, including full-day routes covering 15-25km. At improver level, this means serious distance and elevation gain. You'll be working hard.
-
The reality: You already know that cross-country skiing can be demanding. This week is more so. Longer routes, technical climbs, and consecutive active days mean you need solid fitness and determination. It's worth it for the views, the progress, and the satisfaction of skiing distances you couldn't manage before.
Technical development: We'll work on diagonal stride efficiency, double poling power, hill climbing technique, and downhill control. You should be comfortable with basic techniques already—this week refines and develops them.
Terrain & distance: Expect rolling terrain, real climbs, and long descents. Some routes include challenging sections that'll test your technique and stamina. You need to be comfortable skiing for long periods without breaks.
Not for beginners: This picks up where your beginner’s trip left off and takes you further. If you've skied cross-country elsewhere, bring what you know and we'll help you improve. If you’ve never cross-country skied before, we recommend doing one of our beginner’s ski trips first. It doesn’t matter if you’re an experienced downhill skier - cross-county is a completely different movement and skill.
Real talk: If you're ready to challenge yourself, cover serious distance, and push your technical skills, you'll love this. If you're still finding your feet on skis, stick with the beginner week first.
-
A cosy mountain lodge serves as home for the week. Twin and private rooms, that riverside sauna, and a yoga space with mountain views. Comfortable, practical, and positioned perfectly for accessing the trail network.
-
Start each day with the hotel's breakfast buffet where you'll also pack lunch for the trails. Dinners are three-course affairs in the restaurant, focusing on local ingredients from the mountains and nearby fjords. Think hearty meals designed to refuel after demanding days.
We accommodate most dietary requirements with advance notice. Check with our Booking Team before booking to ensure we can cater for your needs.
