Norway Hiking Adventure

Travel

  • You are responsible for booking your own travel to Tyinkrysset bus stop where you will be picked up at 21:15.

  • A group transfer is included on both the arrival and departure days. This is a shared transfer, running at fixed times. There is one transfer each way, and your flight must match the timing. If it doesn’t, you’ll need to make your own arrangements.

On arrival day, we will collect you from: Tyinkrysset bus station at 21:15

On departure day, we will drop you off at: Tyinkrysset bus station at 9:45

The group transfer is included in your trip package. There is no discount if you choose not to use it.

  • We recommend flying into Oslo Gardermoen. There is one bus a day to Tyinkrysset from the airport itself, or a more regular bus service from Oslo Central bus station. It is also possible to get the bus from Bergen airport also.

Please note that if you arrive before our transfer time you will need to book your own transfer to the hotel. Please contact our Bookings Team who will be able to help you with this.

  • Book your tickets on the Vy website (https://www.vy.no/en) - which is easy to use and has an English version.

  • You are responsible for arranging your travel to Tyinkrysset, where we’ll collect you at the start of the trip. We recommend flying into Oslo Gardermoen Airport, which offers the most straightforward travel options. Bergen Airport can also be used, depending on your travel plans.

You’re welcome to book any flights that fit within the scheduled transfer times, but please note that transfers run on a fixed schedule and cannot be delayed. We’ll share the exact transfer timings with you ahead of your trip so you can plan accordingly.

We also strongly recommend taking out travel insurance that covers delays, cancellations and missed connections.

  • The bus journey is approximately 4.5 hours.

  • The transfer takes approximately five minutes.

  • Yes, private transfers can be arranged at an additional cost of approximately NOK 80 (£6/€7) per person per way. Please contact us in advance to arrange this.

  • Missed transfers are rare, but we want to be upfront so you can plan with confidence.

If your flight is delayed or cancelled, you’ll need to arrange your own transport to meet the group. Our group transfers run on schedule and cannot wait for late arrivals.

Your host will be your main contact on the day and can help coordinate locally with our partners in country. You can also contact our bookings team, available Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm UK time, although replies may be delayed outside of these hours. In some locations, arranging a private transfer is straightforward — but in more remote areas, it can be limited and expensive. That’s why comprehensive travel insurance is essential, not only for delays and cancellations, but also in case you need to cancel your trip before departure.

Make sure your insurance covers travel delays and missed connections, it could save you a significant amount if things don’t go to plan.

  • You should buy comprehensive travel insurance as soon as you book your trip, not just before you travel. This ensures you’re covered in case you need to cancel before departure, as well as for any unexpected issues while you’re away.

Your policy should include cover for:

    • Travel delays and missed connections

    • Trip cancellation

    • Medical emergencies and evacuation

    • Baggage and equipment loss

    • All activities included in your itinerary

Travel insurance is a requirement for joining any Gutsy Girls trip, and it’s your responsibility to check that your policy includes the kind of adventure you've signed up for, especially outdoor or sporting activities.

Booking your insurance early gives you peace of mind and protects your trip from the very start.

Accommodation & Food

  • We stay at a newly renovated mountain hotel with 28 rooms and 15 apartments. Each room has a comfy bed, private bathroom with shower and mountain views from large windows. The hotel has a restaurant, terrace, free wifi and is literally steps from the trails.

  • Yes, towels are provided and hairdryers can be borrowed from reception for the length of your stay.

  • Laundry facilities aren't available at the hotel. Pack travel wash or soap flakes if you want to handwash clothes during the week.

  • The food is a highlight. The hotel chefs take pride in what they serve, using local ingredients from the nearby Valdres region. You'll get a mountain breakfast buffet each morning to fuel your days, packed lunches, and three-course dinners served each evening in the restaurant. Expect hearty Norwegian mountain food, warming soups, local meat and fish, dishes designed to refuel tired legs.

  • We accommodate most dietary requirements with advance notice. Just tell us early as sourcing specialty ingredients in the mountains takes planning.

Activities

  • This trip is rated challenging and is best suited to experienced hikers looking to step things up in the Norwegian mountains. You don’t need to be an elite athlete, but you do need a strong base fitness and confidence on long, demanding days in the hills.

You’ll be hiking for four consecutive days, covering between 9km and 18km per day, with elevation gains of up to 1,100m. There’s also the varied terrain to navigate, from rocky ridgelines and exposed mountain paths, to glacier crossings.

This is a physically demanding week, but if you’re used to regular hiking with solid elevation, you’ll be in the right place.

  • Each day brings a different hiking adventure, with routes carefully selected to suit the group’s ability and the ever-changing mountain conditions. Our experienced guides ensure a flexible itinerary and take us on a variety of incredible routes:

Filefjell Ridge  9km / 4–5hrs / 550m elevation - A ridge walk across three peaks and a solid introduction to what this week has in store.

Mt. Store Soleiebotntind  11km / 4hrs / 900m elevation - A route along rocky terrain to the summit Mt Store Soleiebotntind

The King's Road Mountain Pass (Kongevegen)  17km / 6hrs / 450m elevation - Norway's historic Oslo-to-Bergen route. Skirt Lake Otrøvatnet, climb over the pass with Jotunheimen ahead and Lærdalen below, and finish in Maristova.

Mt. Uranostind and Glacier Crossing  18km / 6hrs / 1,100m elevation - The final trail across Lake Uradalsvatnet, over a glacier and up to the mountain summit

  • Some trails involve high-altitude sections with exposed views. You’ll need to feel confident with heights.

Gear & Packing

  • Hiking boots with good ankle support are mandatory for the glacier hike, so we recommend wearing them at all times.

  • Yes! You can find a detailed packing list here.

  • Yes, bring a daypack (around 30-25L) to carry essentials like water, snacks, and any extra layers you might need. A lightweight dry bag is also a good idea to keep things dry while on the move.

Other Questions

  • Weather in Tyin during summer can be varied, with daytime temperatures typically ranging from 10°C to 20°C. While it can feel warm in the sun, it’s often cooler in the mountains, especially in the mornings, evenings and at higher elevations.

Conditions can change quickly, so you should be prepared for a mix of sunshine, wind and occasional rain. Layering is key to staying comfortable throughout the day.

An up to date weather forecast can be found in your customer booking portal.

  • Most places in Norway, including the hotel, accept credit or debit cards, so there’s no need to carry cash unless you’d like to.

  • We get guests of all ages join our adventures. As long as you're active, up for the challenge and willing to get stuck in as part of the group, we don't care how old you are (as long as you're over 18, sorry!) The mix of ages in a group is actually one of the best things about our trips – you’ll click with women you’d probably never meet otherwise.

We do recommend you read through all our information on fitness and experience levels though for your trip to make sure it's right for you, and to get in touch with the Bookings Team if you have any questions.

  • Absolutely! Many of our participants join solo, and it’s a great way to meet new, like-minded friends. We’ll connect you with other participants via a WhatsApp group before the trip.

  • Whenever possible we use female instructors and guides, however we cannot always guarantee this, simply because there are fewer female instructors available!

Our first priority is to work with the most highly experienced and considerate instructors and guides, who are patient, friendly and as passionate as we are about building women’s confidence in the outdoors.

We keep a close eye on the feedback our guides receive from our guests as we believe that overall this is more important than their gender. We sincerely hope that as more women are introduced to adventure sports and activities, the amount of female guides and instructors in our industry will increase.

  • If the weather affects the planned activities, we will adjust the itinerary as needed. Safety is our top priority, and we always have backup options for indoor or alternative activities.

  • Our itineraries are never set in stone.  Our guides will often swap things around to make the most of the given weather conditions on each day and taking the current forecast into account.

Please be flexible with our guides who work hard to ensure we are able to have adventures and stay safe at the same time.
