Gutsy Girls’ Top 5 Hikes near Bristol

Gutsy Girls’ Top 5 Hikes near Bristol

You probably already know that Bristol is fantastic for culture, nightlife and its food scene. An added bonus is that whether you live in Bristol or are just visiting, you don’t have to venture far out of the city to find some great hiking spots. If you’re after a pretty countryside amble, a trek through some spectacular landscape or an invigorating coastline walk, Bristol has it all within an hours’ drive (though in some cases, it does take longer by public transport).

Here's our round-up of what we think are the top five walks near Bristol, covering north, south, east and west of the city. Each one offers something different and you can reach all of them by either bus or train. Plus, most of them are dog friendly and include great pub, restaurant or café options for a post-hike lunch or a pick-me-up drink along the way.

Join the Gutsy Girls Team for the Fjällräven Classic!

We are building a Gutsy Girls team to do the Fjällräven Classic this August!

In 2018 myself and 5 other Gutsy Girls joined 2,000 people to hike 110km over 6 days. It was an unforgettable experience, filled with laughter (a couple of tears) and crazy amounts of fun! It was my first ever multi-day hike and was such a powerful and memorable experience that I’m thrilled we can do it again.

In 2019, 9 Gutsy Girls headed back to Sweden to do the Classic, they all had their own reason to want to challenge themselves and connect in nature, they had an incredible hike together and long-standing friendships were formed.

This year we have 9 spots available on our team!

While we build the webpage with all the info, here’s a quick overview of what to expect.

Dates: 12th - 18th August

We will aim to cover the distance in 5 days, starting early on the 12th and finishing on the 16th.

Cost: £265

This is not a guided experience, you’ll be working as a team to support each other through this adventure! Gutsy Girls will be supporting you to the start line, bringing like-minded women together to hike through incredible Swedish landscapes!

The cost includes your ticket for the event, includes all your expedition meals on route and transfers to the starting point, Gutsy Girls Merch (beanie, camping mug) and the GG team behind the scenes connecting you all up and getting you ready for the adventure.

You’ll need all your own hiking gear, backpack, tent, sleeping bag, and sleeping mat - some gear can be hired from Fjällräven (tents approx 100€)

Travel: approx £450+ for flights - Book yourself!

This adventure is in the very north of Sweden with limited travel options available. You’ll need to book flights to Kiruna (arriving on the 11th) you may be able to find trains for the return journey!

What is Bikepacking?

What is Bikepacking?

Bikepacking is the same as self-supported overnight hiking trips, just on two wheels! Combining the freedom of multi-day backcountry hiking, exploring off-road trails with the ability to cover more ground. It’s about exploring places less travelled, via singletrack trails, bridleways and ancient tracks and paths, carrying the essential gear and not much more.

Our search for Gutsy Girls Leaders continues!

Thank you to all of you who applied in our last round of applications, we are still working reading your Host applications and will be in touch very soon.

YOGA RETREAT LEADER

We are still accepting applications for Leaders. We would really really love to hear from you if you are a qualified Yoga Instructor who has great leadership skills!

You don’t need to be currently teaching in the studio! Maybe you completed your yoga training for your own personal practice, but love sharing the joys of yoga with others we’d love to hear from you!

You also don’t need to be a SUP instructor or have much paddleboarding experience, we can help you develop these skills!

Meet Courtney - Gutsy Girls Leader

‘What is a friend? A single soul dwelling in two bodies.’ - Aristotle

When I started Gutsy Girls I’d be lying if I didn’t tell you I wanted what I was offering to the community for myself. I wanted great adventures, to explore beautiful places but what I REALLY wanted was to meet new friends.

I was searching for friendships that allowed us to be truly ourselves. To support each other’s growth and be the biggest fan girl to each other. 🙌🙌 Who evoke deep belly laughter, the kind  where you cry, snort and remind you to do pelvic floor exercises.

I am so grateful for the women who I’ve met through Gutsy Girls.

This is Courtney, one soul who is with me every day through our daily voice notes. (She’s over in Canada 🇨🇦)

We take it in turns being the guide on our path of self growth and self-discovery, sharing daily insights. Leap frogging each other, to check the path ahead and reporting back what we’ve learnt.

It’s been 2 and a half years since we last met in real life and now it’s just 16 days until we are reunited again AND I’m so excited that she’ll be leading Gutsy Girls adventures in May, so some of you will get to meet her too!

Courtney has been an integral part of Gutsy Girls growth and development, as a friend but also as a highly experienced guide. Her passion for creating supportive, welcoming and fun spaces in the outdoors allowing guests to find peace, play and connection.

Courtney is a highly experienced SUP instructor and guide, she has lead expeditions in Norway, hosts her own SUP and Yoga Retreats in Canada and is continually developing and growing her leadership, expedition and wilderness skills. This week she’s in British Columbia completing her Level 2 Coastal Guide & Paddle Canada Touring Instructor.

She is a qualified yoga instructor, leading classes that are inclusive and inspirational. Courtney creates a welcoming and calm space that allows you to connect with your body and breathe.

She’s also a hell of a gal, lots of fun and a cheerleader to everyone!
