Fly into Stavanger, Norway

January to March

Join us for a long weekend adventure, for kayaking, snowshoeing, and hiking in Norway's stunning winter landscape.

Kayak in the fjords, surrounded by snow-capped mountains and cascading waterfalls. Swap paddles for snowshoes to explore the snowy expanses of the Sirdal mountains, moving deeper into nature and off the well-worn paths. We’ll also hike to the iconic Pulpit Rock, which in winter offers a unique and less crowded  experience, far from the summer masses..

Perfect for both beginners and experienced adventurers, our seasoned kayak guide will build your confidence on the water. Even as temperatures dip below freezing, our winter drysuits will keep you toasty in very stable double kayaks, so no need to worry about capsizing!

For those new to snowshoeing, it's an intuitive and rewarding way to navigate winter landscapes, requiring no prior experience.

Stay in a cosy waterside cabin, where the brave can try wild swimming in the fjord’s icy waters before warming up in the sauna.

Spend evenings chatting with new friends over hearty home-cooked meals and learn to cook over an open fire.

Immerse yourself in nature with a group of like-minded women, and truly embrace the Norwegian winter on this memorable weekend adventure.

Location

On this adventure holiday you'll explore awe-inspiring locations, including Lysefjord and the Sidral mountains in southwest Norway. At 42km long, Lysefjord is Norway's largest fjord, with mountains reaching 1000m towering over it. It's a beautiful place to explore by kayak and in winter we'll have the fjord all to ourselves!

With its high peaks and scenic lakes, Sirdal is a picturesque mountain region in southwestern Norway. Here we’ll explore the fluffy snow, discovering frozen forests, breathing in the crisp mountain air, and maybe even encountering some curious reindeer along the way.

Activities

Kayaking

This kayaking holiday is created for beginners, if you've already got some paddling experience you'll still have a fantastic time exploring this stunning location.

We'll have a full day kayaking on the second day of the trip, exploring different sections for the fjord and led by a local kayaking guide.

You'll be in a stable double kayaks with another Gutsy Girl. We’ll paddle up to 6 hours each day with plenty of breaks, but with two of you paddling together, it's easier work to cover longer distances.

The temperatures might be below freezing but you'll be kept warm and toasty in a drysuit.

Snowshoeing

Snowshoeing requires no previous experience or technical skills, making it a great winter activity- it's simply hiking! Snowshoes are worn over hiking boots and their wide frame spreads your weight across the snow surface, preventing you from sinking deep snow. It's a great way to access snow covered terrains and explore during winter without fear of disappearing under the powder!

Hiking

Preikestolen (The Pulpit Rock) towers 604 meters above the Lysefjord and is one of Norway's most famous mountain hikes. While the trail is bustling with tourists in the summer, winter transforms it into a quiet and peaceful path, making it feel like we have the whole landscape to ourselves.

Fitness and Experience Level

  • This trip is rated as moderate.  You don’t need to be an elite athlete, but the activities will require a good level of fitness as you’ll be doing something different every day.

You may also be dealing with colder weather than you’re used to. Even wrapped up warm, this can use up more energy than you realise too, so a sense of humour is necessary!

  • Hiking and Snowshoeing

Expect a full-day hike covering approximately 9km with ascents up to 600m. This challenging but rewarding hike can take up to 8 hours, including breaks, so a good fitness level is essential to enjoy the day.

    Consecutive Activity:

Prepare for 3 consecutive days of back-to-back activities. The week is action-packed, and while it’s not overly extreme, the physical demands will keep you moving and engaged.

    Communal Living:

You’ll be staying in a cosy cabin with your fellow Gutsy Girls, offering a warm and welcoming space to relax after active days. Expect to be in close quarters, creating opportunities to bond with your group.

    Kayaking Distances:

You’ll  kayak between 14-18km in double kayaks. You’ll have plenty of time on the water to soak in the stunning fjord views and improve your kayaking skills. You’ll also have another Gutsy Girl in your kayak which will make the going easier too as you will both paddle.

    Kayaking Considerations:

Kayaking in winter conditions is exhilarating, but adjusting to the seating and handling of double kayaks may take a little time. However, it becomes more comfortable as the day progresses.

We’ll stay in a cosy cabin by the fjord. Enjoy sunrise with coffee on the deck or a refreshing swim in the icy water.
